~Chapter 3- Still Darkness~ Disclaimer: You know the drill... Kou sat beside a comfortable looking bed of rich silk covers. Carefully tucked in it was a girl with long silky black hair, Jadeite. Kou looked worriedly at Jadeite. She didn’t seem to be having a restful sleep at all. Beads of sweat covered her forehead like dewdrops in a field. Her thin eyebrows were furrowed and her face was flushed. Kou carefully used a wet piece of cloth to wipe away the beads of sweat, hoping to make her more comfortable. But more beads of sweat appeared as fast as he wiped them off. He finally gave up, tossing the cloth away. Kou buried his head in his hand, reliving the events which happened just hours earlier. (Flashback) “Jadeite!!!” Kou screamed and started running towards them. Syaoran’s sword came down on Jadeite... A flash of blinding light shot out of Jadeite’s hands. It wasn’t just any light. The light threw Syaoran back a few meters and injured him badly. {What the? That was raw power! She’s a...} Syaoran recoiled fright and ran as well as he could into the endless land of sand. Jadeite collapsed on the floor. Kou ran over and cradled her in his arms. “Wh...at hap...pened?” Jadeite whispered. “Hush. Sleep.” Kou murmured. Around them, the crowd gasped. The girl had shown such strong raw power, such a strong aura. She was the... “Ahem! Guards! Quick! Bring Jadeite to the physician!” Hinoto interrupted. Several guard complied. Kou carried Jadeite and followed them to the physician’s tent. He tried to ignore the comments traveling from the crowd. Most of them of fear. Kou couldn’t help but be a bit fearful from the show of power Jadeite gave. {Jadeite, what did you do? What are you?} (End of Flashback) Kou massaged his head and sighed. He got up and sank thankfully into his comfortable bed, embracing the darkness of sleep. Jadeite, on the other hand... (Jadeite’s Dream) Jadeite was floating on a wooden raft, upon still dark waters. Her eyes fluttered open. “Huh? Where am I?” her voice echoed eerily in the darkness. She sat up, regretting it immediately as her head began to spin dangerously to unconsciousness. She rested her head against her hand. Suddenly, angry shouts sounded from every direction. Jadeite jerked her head up. People carrying flaming torches appeared from the front, left and right, their faces twisted with anger, hate and something suspiciously like fear. She recognized some of them. They were guards from the outcast camp! She gasped and clambered to her feet. Clutching herself in fear, she took a step back. Out of the crowd, she recognized Hinoto. She was trying to get a message across despite the racket. Finally, she gave up and crumpled to the ground. “Kill the witch! Kill the witch!” the crowd roared. Jadeite took yet another step backwards, but her bare foot did not meet with the hardy, warm feeling of wood. Instead, she was met with a cool, smooth surface, something like glass. She looked down in surprise. She was standing on the surface of the water. She gingerly lifted her other foot and set it on the surface, testing it. Ripples formed under her foot, but she did not sink. Amazing... Jadeite thought, fascinated. Another round of shouts from her crowd awoke her from her musings. She started to run. She ran and ran. But no matter how hard she ran, the crowd always seemed to be gaining on her. Suddenly, her feet sank into the water. She started sinking. Surprised, Jadeite began to struggled, but to no avail. Finally, she was completely submerged into the water. She couldn’t breathe. She tried kicking her legs, but it was as if an invisible force was pulling her down. Jadeite squeezed her eyes shut. Kou! Help! Suddenly, she felt herself rushing up again. She opened her eyes a sliver. Somehow, she managed to see a few images. First she saw herself confronting Syaoran. Then, she saw Kou, Syaoran and herself being sucked into a colorful portal. A few more images followed, but they were to blurry for Jadeite to make them out. Finally, she surfaced. She panted and stood up. The ground beneath her hardened as if it were water freezing into ice. She felt to feeling of cool, smooth glass again. Now where am I? Jadeite swerved round, observing her surrounding environment. Suddenly, a ripple formed a few paces in front of her. Someone completely covered with a long black cloak rose out of it. Who are you? Jadeite took a few steps back, tensing. The figure removed the hood covering his face, revealing long black hair tied back into a ponytail and midnight blue eyes. “Kou!” Jadeite joyfully ran towards him. But as she reached out to embrace him, he pulled out his sword and pointed it at her heart, causing her to stumble a few steps backwards. To her surprise, the phoenix sword was surrounded by a eerie black aura, like the one Sharrakor gave out. Very much different from the one it usually radiated out, its usual aura was a mixture of black, silver and dark blue, giving you a feeling of the night sky dotted with tiny sliver stars. “Kou?” Jadeite asked in surprise. Kou stared at Jadeite straight in her face. Jadeite shivered. His mouth was curled into a sadistic smile and his midnight blue eyes were hollow. They were not the ones which Jadeite fell in love with. Kou raised his sword and slashed down at Jadeite. Jadeite yelped and leapt to the side. His sword managed to slice off a few of her hair. “Kou! What are you doing?” Jadeite screamed. Kou raised his sword. Jadeite shut her eyes, wishing for him to stop. The sword slashed down, causing the air to visibly split... There was a clang. Jadeite opened her eyes. Standing in front of her was a tall, imposing figure with messy, brown hair, protecting her. He held a Chinese-styled sword with an intricate wolf face carved on it. “Syaoran?” Jadeite gasped in amazement. Syaoran turned round and smiled at her. He then jerked his sword upwards and charged at Kou. But his skill was no match for Kou’s and soon, Kou forced Syaoran’s sword out of his hand. He drove his sword into Syaoran’s heart. Jadeite covered her mouth in horror. A girl, out of nowhere, ran past Jadeite, surprising her. She had long auburn hair and emerald green eyes. Her ruby red lips were pressed into a thin, straight line. She knelt down beside Syaoran. “Syaoran, hang on.” the girl placed her hands over his wound, her eyes brimming with tears. Syaoran then cupped the girl’s hands with his own. “Never mind about me. Protect Jadeite...” Syaoran’s rolled to the back of his head and his hands fell limp. The girl remained silent, her eyes cast down. Then she stood up, glowing a pinkish colour. Pink colored particles gathered at her hand and formed into a strange-looking sword with intricate cherry blossom carvings. Kou seemed to be amused. His sadistic smile increased every so slightly. The girl looked up, rage evident in her eyes. She charged at Kou with a loud war cry. The girl slashed madly at Kou, who dodged every blow aimed at him easily. He tripped the girl with his leg and then plunged the sword into her heart. Jadeite’s eyes widened in fear and she fell to her knees. Kou slowly turned around and smiled maliciously. “Now... it’s your turn.” Kou grinned admiring the blood on his sword. “No...no...NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” (End of Dream) “No!!!!!!!” Jadeite screamed. Kou woke up with a start and immediately shot out of bed. Jadeite was screaming in her sleep. Kou tried to wake Jadeite up, but she struggled in her sleep and hit him squarely on the jaw. Kou fell to the floor, rubbing his jaw. He tried again, only to be shoved to the floor again. “Jadeite! Wake up!” Kou shouted desperately, shaking her. Jadeite woke up. She gasped and wheezed. “What happened.” Kou asked. “You... the villagers... they came after... me... Syaoran... the girl... you tried... kill...” Jadeite wheezed out, ending with choked sobs. “What?” Kou blinked. “Kou, you were trying to kill me.” Jadeite looked up, her voice strained. Kou shivered at the haunted look in Jadeite’s eyes. Jadeite buried her face in her hands. Kou bent down besides Jadeite, his eyebrows furrowed. Suddenly, Jadeite jerked up. Kou jumped back with a yelp. “Kou, in my dream, the villagers, outcasts, called me a witch. Is that what they think I am?” Jadeite asked. Kou froze, not knowing how to react. “Kou?” Jadeite waved her hand in front of his face. Kou snapped out of his daze and nodded, sighing. Jadeite quickly got out of bed. She started packing her things. “What are doing?” Kou demanded. “Packing.” Jadeite answered simply. “Where are you going?” Kou gripped Jadeite by the shoulders. “Anywhere but here.” Jadeite pushed Kou’s hands off her shoulders. “’Huh?” Kou stood there shocked. “ Well, in my dream, the villagers came after me with flamed torches; that wasn’t an ordinary dream either. So shut up and help me pack.” Jadeite growled. Kou sighed and began to pack. As he reached over to pick up a few bottles of water beside Jadeite, Jadeite jumped up and gasped. Kou jumped out of his skin. “What is it?” Kou panted, clutching his chest. “Syaoran, we must find Syaoran. Where is he.” Jadeite remembered the few images when she was surfacing. “Syaoran? He ran off into the dessert.” Kou answered, confused. “We must find him. Do you know where he is?” Jadeite looked at Kou desperately. Kou sighed, “There’s only one place he can go. A cave near the oasis, where we used to play...” Author’s notes: Phew! Sigh... this chapter was supposed to be longer, but I’m too lazy to continue. Oh well, sorry for the long delay. This was one of the hardest chapters to write. Watching comedies didn’t help much... Muses Torture and Rants- Jadeite: I have no idea what to say about this chapter. Kou: Why am I evil? Author: Well, it’s sort of a preview to the last few chapters. BTW, the outcasts don’t really welcome witches. They think they’re evil. But, Jadeite isn’t a witch. You’ll find out next chapter. Syaoran: Kind of interesting, but why in the world am I helping Jadeite? Is that girl with the long auburn hair Sakura? Why is her hair long? Author: Well, all will be revealed in due time... Syaoran: I’m tired of waiting! (Takes out his sword) Author: Uh oh! (Runs off to Cephiro) Kou: Pls R & R.
